Role of the main components

• Folic acid and Vitamin B12:

Folic acid acts from the beginning of pregnancy, so its supplementation is recommended in pregnant women. This vitamin contributes to the growth of maternal tissues during pregnancy. A supplementary intake of folic acid increases the level of maternal folate. A low amount of maternal folate is a risk factor for neural tube defects in the developing fetus. This beneficial effect is reported to be obtained with a supplemental daily intake of at least 400 µg of folic acid for at least one month before conception and up to three months after conception. In addition, folic acid and vitamin B12 contribute to the process of cell division.

• Iodine:

During pregnancy, the need for iodine increases, which contributes to normal cognitive function.

• Iron:

During pregnancy there is a considerable increase in iron requirements to ensure the mother's reserves and the child's adequate supply. It is a very important mineral as it contributes to the normal transport of oxygen in the body and the process of cell division.

• Vitamin D:

• Omega-3 fatty acids:

Maternal intake of DHA contributes to the normal development of the brain and eyes of the fetus. Pregnant women are advised that this beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 200 mg of DHA in addition to the recommended daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids for adults, that is, 250 mg of DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). ).
