5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is a derivative of tryptophan, an amino acid found in foods high in protein such as meat and dairy products. The body manufactures 5-HTP from tryptophan which, in the brain, is converted into the neurotransmitter serotonin related to various organic functions such as appetite, mood and sleep.
