Properties and benefits of Cimicifuge St

imicifuga racemosa, traditionally used for the treatment of various gynecological disorders, is currently considered a source of phytoestrogens.

Formononetin appears to be responsible for its estrogenic effect, since this isoflavone competitively binds to estrogenic receptors. It has been suggested that the Cimicifuge could act similarly to selective estrogen receptor modifiers; It has also been postulated that the selective modulation it exerts on LH pulses could account for its action. The constituents of Cimicifuga racemosa bind to estrogen receptors, but do not affect LH levels and do not have an estrogen-like effect.
