Description
Astaxanthin from Solgar is a food supplement based on algae haematococcus pluvialis standardized in astaxanthin. Haematococcus pluvialis is a microalga of the Chlamydomonadeae family, a particularly concentrated natural source of astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is a xanthophyll, a class of carotenoids, widespread among aquatic animals to which it gives a characteristic pink pigmentation. Astaxanthin has a slightly polar structure which allows it to assume a specific orientation in the cell membrane in order to perform its function at best. The Haematococcus pluvialis seaweed is indicated as an antioxidant support.
