Properties and benefits of Soy Lecithin

Lecithin is technically a phospholipid. It is one of the most abundant natural sources of choline and inositol, two important nutrients that act as lipotropic agents, with an important role in liver fat metabolism and in body fat emulsion.

Lecithin, in the form of phosphatidylcholine, is the main source of choline (vitamin B group) in the diet. Once in the body, this compound breaks down, releasing the choline. Lecithin and choline are used by the body to build cell membranes and facilitate the mobilization of fats into and out of cells. Choline is also the precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is essential for normal brain activity. In addition to being a rich source of choline, lecithin is a key component of bile and helps maintain liver well-being.
